Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross in 1881, and the first Red Cross Chapter was located in Dansville, NY. For over 130 years, the American Red Cross has been providing important disaster relief services to the Western and Central New York community. These services have helped countless people prepare for, prevent, and respond to emergencies. Today, the Western and Central New York Region continues to support individuals and families experiencing disasters, while also assisting members of our nation's military and their families, providing services that are vital to our community, and important safety and first aid training. Donations made to the Red Cross fund these services and ensure that we will always be what happens next for the people who need us most.
